Memo To:   All Call Before You Dig Utility Members
Date:  June 26, 2017
Subject:  New Locate Request Ticket Type

On August 1, 2017, Call Before You Dig (CBYD) will begin transmitting a new ticket “type.”

Currently, each ticket that you receive has a heading which describes the locate request as a <<<ROUTINE>>> or an <<<EMERGENCY>>>. Recent changes to the state regulations have created a new ticket type, known as an <<<AREA OF CONTINUOUS EXCAVATION>>>. These types of tickets are to be employed by entities who routinely excavate on their own property as part of their daily operations. Examples would be cemeteries or quarrying sites. The tickets are valid for one (1) year from the date that they were created.

If your company utilizes a ticket management system or parses locate requests from CBYD, you should contact your IT Department or your vendor to ensure that your system is prepared for this change. The field length for this heading is forty-two (42) spaces and will appear as <<<AREA OF CONTINUOUS EXCAVATION>>>. Your system may fail to accept this new ticket; it may drop data or it might not provide complete information if you do not make appropriate adjustments. The heading is the only data field that will change for this new ticket type.

Two (2) examples of the new <<<AREA OF CONTINUOUS EXCAVATION>>> tickets are attached.
